To cap off the celebration of the 2025 National Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month, the Department of Agriculture (DA) features the livestock and poultry sector in this week’s exhibit.

Agriculture Undersecretary for Operations and Agri-Fisheries Mechanization Roger V. Navarro, Undersecretary for Fisheries Drusila Esther E. Bayate, and National Livestock Program Deputy Director Dr. Noverlee Calub, graced the opening of the exhibit and product booths on May 26, 2025, which highlighted the vital role of the livestock sector in advancing Philippine agriculture and honored the dedication and resilience of Filipino livestock and poultry raisers.

In his address during the flag raising ceremony, Dr. Calub emphasized the indispensable role of livestock farmers in securing the nation’s food supply and supporting economic stability. He called on the public to continue uplifting and acknowledging the relentless efforts of these agricultural frontliners.

“This month and beyond, let us stand with our farmers and fisherfolk, honoring not only the food they provide but also the communities they sustain,” Dr. Calub said.

“Together, we are building a livestock industry that is inclusive, resilient, and prosperous for all,” he added.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the livestock industry generated Php63.33 billion in 2024, contributing 15.3% to the total agricultural output.

Despite the challenges posed by African Swine Fever and Avian Influenza, the livestock sector has shown notable resilience—thanks to the continued support of the DA through the National Livestock Program (NLP).

Dr. Calub reaffirmed the DA’s commitment to uplifting livestock farmers by delivering quality breeder animals, nutritious feeds, and technical support. The department also enhances disease surveillance, promotes livestock research and innovation, and strengthens farmer capabilities. Supporting enterprise development and improving market access remain key strategies in driving agripreneurship and rural growth.

Among the major programs under the NLP are the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development, Unified National Artificial Insemination Program, Animal Health Improvement Program, Agricultural Workers Incentives Program, machinery distribution, and the INSPIRE Program (Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion). Locally funded programs such as the Swine Industry Recovery Program and the Goat and Sheep Expansion Program further support the sector’s evolving needs.
