Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar led the culmination of the 2020 World Food Day (WFD) observance held at the DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) in Quezon City on October 16, 2020.

The DA chief was joined by Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles and three officials of the United Nations (UN) in the Philippines, including UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines Gustavo Gonzalez, UN-WFP Philippines Deputy Country Director Mats Persson, and Assistant UN-FAO Representative in the Philippines Tamara Palis-Duran.

The 2020 WFD event was also graced virtually by National Zero Hunger Champion and Miss World 2013 Megan Young.

Food Security Ambassadors James Reid and Cherrie Atilano also delivered inspirational messages during the event and committed to use their voices to influence the young Filipinos to take part in sustainable food production.

Yearly, the DA leads the nationwide observance of the WFD, in partnership with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) that celebrated its 75th anniversary. (Photos by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
