THE WAY FORWARD │ Level Up Philippine Agriculture!

55th International Coconut Community Session and Ministerial Meeting

Author: DA-AFID | 28 August 2019

The Department of Agriculture will look at every opportunity to transform and to empower Filipino farmers and treat agriculture as an industry by means of embracing and institutionalizing the value chain system.

This was stressed by Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar during the 55th International Coconut Community Session and Ministerial Meeting held at the PICC on August 26, 2019.

In line with this, the Secretary ordered the Philippine Coconut Authority board to undertake the following: (a) introduction of intercropping and diversifying coconut cropping systems, and turning raw produce into value added products; (b) massive replanting program by adapting a tissue culture process to produce seedlings and new coconut varieties that are high yielding; and (c) increase partnership with various stakeholders. (Photos by Darius Mangampo, DA-AFID)
