Agriculture Secretary William Dar addressed today, March 24, 2021 attendees of the 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), an annual event that aims to provide regional perspective on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

The three-day forum carries the theme, “Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia and the Pacific,” which highlights regional trends and peer sharing of best practices and lessons learned in accelerating transformations for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda while recovering from COVID-19.

It features the contributions of United Nations system bodies at the regional level, other regional and sub-regional organizations, and relevant stakeholders. The breakout sessions were held online.

In his message, Secretary Dar discussed the National Food Policy, created by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger to outline the country’s anti-hunger priorities and identifies the key result areas based on the SDG 2. He mentioned how the government is adopting the “whole-of-government approach” in eradicating hunger and achieving food security. He also presented the country’s investments in cost-effective technologies for data collection and for integrated surveillance systems to monitor nutrition, food security, and key livelihood indicators.

The agri chief also expressed his support for the eight priority actions along with the 13 indicators for SDG 2 proposed by the UN-FAO urging them to continuously support member countries in adopting innovative solutions and digital technologies to promote inclusive economic growth.
