Beyond Buzzwords: Transforming Philippine Agriculture!

Agriculture Secretary William Dar, along with other world leaders and experts attended the opening session of the Rural Development and Food Security Forum organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on October 28, 2019 in Mandaluyong City.

Secretary Dar was part of the panelists on the topic, “Farming Crisis” which Dr. Mekhala Krishnamurthy of the Ashoha University, India has keynoted. The session described the current challenges of farming and proposes how transformative changes in policies and approaches can make farming profitable, highly productive, and attractive to the youth in the region.

Joining the plenary session were Director General Shenggen Fan of the International Food Policy Research Institute, and ADB Chief of Rural Development and Food Security Akmal Siddiq.

In his discourse Dar discussed how crisis can be turned into opportunities stressing that the crisis in rice sector provides an opportunity to further develop and modernize agricultural economy. (Photos by Rita dela Cruz, DA-Communications Group)
