Agriculture Secretary William Dar witnessed the arrival of the 1,350 heads of live hogs today, February 16, which forms part of the “whole-of-the-nation measures” to revive the hog industry and reduce pork prices of the Department of Agriculture.

The hogs, which arrived in Talao-Talao Port, Lucena City, were carried by 13 trucks and were sourced from different parts of Mindanao.

“From this batch, a total of 875 hogs came from Q Pigs and Wilco Farms of South Cotabato,” Sec. Dar said.

Earlier this month, more than 26 metric tons of live hogs were shipped from General Santos City courtesy of the Koronadal Valley Livestock Growers Cooperative According to the agri chief, the shipment, which passed a “special hog lane” permitting the unhampered transport of agri products, will be delivered to government-certified slaughterhouses, and will be sold at Metro Manila markets following the imposed price cap under Executive Order 124.

As of today, more than 38,000 live hogs and 150,167 kilograms of carcasses have been shipped to Metro Manila from ASF-free areas nationwide. The biggest contributor so far is the CALABARZON region, with 50 percent share. (Photo by DA-CALABARZON)
