Agriculture Secretary William Dar witnessed the arrival of 2,000 live hogs courtesy of Biotech Farms on February 17, 2021 at the Vitas Port, Pier 18 in Tondo, Manila.

The shipment is part of the sustained efforts of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to augment the supply of pork and eventually lower the prices of pork in Metro Manila.

On February 16, hog shipment from different African Swine Fever-free areas reached 6,800 heads. Secretary Dar assured that the DA is working with the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the mobilization and marketing of pork supply. He said small retailers were also assisted through the “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita”.

Witnessing the arrival along with the Secretary were Undersecretary William Medrano, Assistant Secretaries Arnel De Mesa, Federico Laciste, Jr., and Noel Reyes. They were joined by Biotech Supervisor Herbert Torres and Manager Edelyn Soberon. (Photo by Adones Buhayan, DA-AFID)
