Beyond Buzzwords: Transforming Philippine Agriculture!

Awarding of DA Projects in Piddig, Ilocos Norte (Dec. 14, 2021)

The Department of Agriculture (DA) turned over P66.93-million (M) worth of interventions that will benefit the farmers and livestock raisers of Piddig, Ilocos Norte.

“When you have a highly performing province like Ilocos Norte and a highly performing municipality like Piddig and because it is very akin to what we would like to have in terms of farm consolidation, then bubuhos at bubuhos ang mga resources para sa probinsya at sa munisipyo na yan,” said Agriculture Secretary William Dar during the awarding ceremony on December 14, 2021.

He added that Piddig has been chosen to be the role model in terms of farm consolidation at the municipality level following the “OneDA Reform Agenda” to transform Philippine agriculture.

Under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund-Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) program, the DA Ilocos Regional Field Office (RFO) will award a total of P11.453M for about 2,259 rice farmers in Piddig.

The RFO also awarded P10 million for the town’s swine multiplier farm, P2M for the Typhoon Maring Rehab and Recovery Program, and P7.7M for silage packaging machine.

The DA-National Tobacco Administration also allotted P712,250 for the Tobacco Contract Growing System (cash assistance) and P4.565M for the Curing Barn Assistance Project.

Moreover, the DA-National Dairy Authority awarded a total of P10.5M for the Dairy Animal Loan Assistance.

Secretary Dar also committed another P20M for the municipality’s dairy goat and dairy cattle projects.

Livestock Undersecretary William Medrano, Assistant Secretary for Operations Arnel De Mesa, Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel Reyes, Ilocos Regional Director Nestor Domenden, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc, and Piddig Mayor Eduardo Eddie Guillen joined the agri chief during the event.
