Agriculture Secretary William Dar, together with Undersecretary for High Value Crops and Rural Credit Evelyn Laviña, Undersecretary for Regulations Zamzamin Ampatuan, and Assistant Secretary for the DA-Wide Field Inspectorate Federico Laciste, Jr. led the ceremonial turned over of fruits shipped from Mindanao to Manila on September 2, 2020, at the Department of Agriculture (DA) Office.

The activity was made possible through a Memorandum of Agreement between the Durian Industry Association of Davao City (DIADC) and John Gold Cargo Forwarder, a Davao-based company, which was facilitated by the Office of Usec. Ampatuan and Agri Marketing Assistance (AMAD)- DA Region 11.

Under the agreement, DIADC committed to send 15 tons of tropical fruits including durian, mangosteen, lanzones, marang, and rambutan, six times a week to help local fruit growers find markets for their produce.

For their part, the John Gold Cargo Forwarder will provide logistic services for the transport of products. The cargo company also offers aircraft space with a special rate of P35 per kilo from Mindanao to Metro Manila or Mindanao to Visayas.

The initiative runs from September to October and will be assessed accordingly to determine if it will be extended and expanded for other agri commodities.

The DA Region 11, through its AMAD, led the initial send-off of the 15 tons of tropical fruits, as well as chickens and gamefowl from Davao and General Santos to Ninoy Aquino International Airport on September 1. (Photos by Adones Buhayan, DA-AFID)
