Agriculture Secretary William Dar met with the Department of Labor and Employment’s National Reintegration Center for OFWs (DOLE-NRCO) Director Dindi Tan to discuss potential interventions by the Department of Agriculture (DA) for Filipino LGBTs (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders) and displaced migrant workers on April 1, 2022.

Director Tan, who also serves as President of the LGBT Pilipinas, Inc., relayed that due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, former overseas Filipino workers and members of the LGBT community lost their livelihood and remained in need of a stable source of income.

One of the proposed programs by the NRCO director is the provision of livestock and other livelihood opportunities related to animal husbandry.

Secretary Dar assured that he will look into possible livelihood and credit assistance that can be provided to the said sectors by the Department with the help of its Regional Field Offices and the Agricultural Credit Policy Council. (Photo by Ardy Tompong, DA-AFID)
