Eligible commercial hog raisers can now avail of loans to start recovery from the impacts of the African swine fever (ASF) through the Special Window and Interim Support to Nurture Hog Enterprises (SWINE) Lending program with P15-billion initial fund.

The new lending program was launched after the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Agriculture Secretary William Dar and Land Bank of the Philippines President and CEO Cecilia Borromeo on March 17, 2021.

Coinciding with the ongoing hog repopulation and recovery programs of the Department of Agriculture (DA), the SWINE program aims to provide financial support to hog raisers that will contribute to increasing the pork supply and improving the country’s food security.

Commercial hog raisers registered as cooperatives of farmers’ associations, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and large enterprises or corporations in previously ASF-affected areas will be provided financing, technical assistance, and quarantine support when they avail of the lending program.

The loans shall be used for swine production including the acquisition and importation of semen or breeding animals; feed milling operations; construction, improvement or retrofitting of necessary facilities in compliance to the DA biosecurity protocols, acquisition of fixed assets, and as working capital.
