The Department of Agriculture (DA) National Management Committee (ManCom) members continued their productive discussions and action planning on the priority concerns in the agriculture and fisheries sector during the second day of the second quarter ManCom Meeting on May 3, 2022 in Davao City.

Among the activities conducted were the presentation of regional performance evaluation report, presentation of media communication strategies, report on contextualizing food sovereignty in the Philippine National Food Security Agenda, and presentation of the DA Transition Report.

Under the “Plant, Plant, Plant Program Part 2,” validated activities/projects were presented into the following groups: 1) intensification of local food production and enhancing the farmers’/fishers’ resilience to natural calamities; 2) strengthening infrastructure and logistics for food mobilization and monitoring key global commodities and engaging trading partners; and 3) crop and food diversification and scaling up use of alternative sources of agricultural inputs.

Before delivering the marching orders to the ManCom, Agriculture Secretary William Dar also faced the press to highlight the major DA programs and activities in anticipation of a brewing food crisis.

He also mentioned three primary recommendations to the succeeding DA leadership. These include doubling or tripling the current DA budget, adopting the National Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization and Industrialization Plan, and operationalizing the OneDA Reform Agenda.
