The Department of Agriculture (DA) gained new partners in promoting urban agriculture for accessible, affordable, and sustainable source of food supply under its ‘Plant, Plant, Plant’ umbrella program.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar signed Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) for the Urban Agriculture Program (UAP) implementation with RCG/Uratex Group of Companies Executive Vice President Eddie A. Gallor, National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) Camarin Medical Center Chief Noel V. Reyes, and Cavite State University (CvSU) President Hernando D. Robles on February 18, 2021.

Based on the MOA, the DA through the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) will provide agricultural inputs such as seeds, plastic sheets, nets for greenhouses, and knapsack sprayers. The Bureau will also give information materials and technical assistance for the establishment and maintenance of the urban community gardens.

The program partners, in return, agreed to provide the required area for the establishment of the gardens, assign people to manage the gardens and attend the trainings offered by BPI, promote urban agriculture, and submit accomplishment reports.

“Amid the health crisis and natural calamities, it is even more timely to partner with DA-BPI to strengthen our commitment to support our employees through programs that will help them be self-reliant especially in producing foods that can be grown in their homes,” Uratex Vice President Gallor said.

BPI Director George Culaste, BPI Assistant Director Glenn Panganiban, and officials of the new partner institutions witnessed the MOA signing.
