CASTILLEJOS, Zambales (October 7, 2025)—The Department of Agriculture (DA) unveiled a package of agricultural support for farmers and fisherfolk in Zambales, including the promise of a P35-million modular cold storage facility for high-value crops by early 2026.
Spearheading the turnover on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. led the distribution of hybrid seeds, farming machinery such as multi-cultivators, hand tractors, and four-wheel drive tractors, as well as shallow tube wells to boost irrigation in the area.
A Mobile Soil Laboratory (MSL) was also deployed to help farmers assess soil condition and determine the right fertilizer and inputs, aimed at reducing production costs and improving yields.
In coordination with Zambales Rep. Jay Khonghun, Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., and other local leaders, the DA also pledged to deliver 150 greenhouse units with drip irrigation systems, targeting high-value crops such as bell pepper, ginger, tomato, and carrots. These are expected to supply major markets in Clark, Pampanga; Subic, Zambales; and Metro Manila. ### (Photos by Gian Carlo Luague, DA-AFID)
