Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the inauguration of the multipurpose facilities at the Technology Resource Hub of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Cordillera on October 29, 2021 in Dontogan, Baguio City.

With an area of 400 square meters and project cost of P9.738 million, the first facility will focus on the technology development of food products and serve as a food processing facility, research and development techno-showroom, and training facility for farmers, researchers, and other stakeholders.

The second facility with an area of 279 square meters and P12 million project cost will serve as a plant genetic resources center and the region’s germplasm/genebank/storage/conservation facility for heirloom rice landraces and all economically important plants for future use. It will also serve as a venue for producing quality planting materials of strawberry and potato, proper storage facility for potatoes during its dormant stage, and venue for capacity building in modern propagation of high-value crops.

The facilities were funded by the DA Bureau of Agricultural Research through the Bayanihan II Stimulus Package.

With Secretary Dar during the inauguration are Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel Reyes, DA-CAR Executive Director Cameron Odsey, Regional Technical Director (RTD) for Operations Danilo Daguio, and RTD for Research and Regulations Jennilyn Dawayan.
