Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar led the inauguration of facilities for the processing of chichacorn and bagnet, as well as swine breeding, awarded to the Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives (NSCC) of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur.

On November 4, Sec. Dar together with the officials of the Department of Agriculture in the Ilocos Region, formally opened the facilities which aim to strengthen and promote the marketing of the Ilocano bestsellers.

The infra projects with a total cost of P17 million, were funded under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2.

In his message, the agri chief commended NSCC for its numerous projects that have improved the lives and livelihood of local farmers.

“NSCC is one of the best cooperatives of the country today,” he said adding that farmers must form into groups and cluster to avail of the interventions of the DA.

Clustering or consolidation is one of the key strategies of the Department under the OneDA Reform Agenda which seeks to transform Philippine agriculture into a sustainable industry. (Photo by Adonis Buhayan, DA-AFID)
