Groundbreaking of Smart Greenhouse (Jan. 28, 2021)

As part of the Urban Gardening Project of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the groundbreaking of the smart greenhouse at the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) on January 28, 2021.

Joining Sec. Dar is BPI Bureau Director George Y. Culaste, Assistant Directors Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, Assistant Dir. Andres L. Alemania, and Assistant Dir. Jonar I. Yago, Crop Research and Production Support Division Chief Mary Ann B. Guerrero, Bureau of Agricultural Research Director Vivencio R. Mamaril, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA-APHIS) Agricultural Science Officer Russell Caplen and Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel O. Reyes.

Funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), the smart greenhouse will be digitally controlled with PLC and microcontroller as programming-based hardware for its ventilation and temperature control, automatic nutrient aeration and recirculation, control sunlight intensity with light compensator during cloudy, and control the humidity. This event aims to apprise the Bidders on the Standard Bidding Procedures of the Department of Agriculture - Office of the Secretary and the introduction of Green Procurement conditions in the procurement of Lease of Venue, Catering of Food Provision and I.T. Equipment.
