Agriculture Secretary William Dar urged hog traders from the province of Batangas to partner with the government in its efforts which ultimately seeks to bring down the price of meat being sold in the market.

“We are recommending a ceiling price of P270 and P300 for every kilo of kasim and liempo, respectively, and so we hope that we can work together to bring down the prices of pork,” he said during the inauguration of the 1st National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Triple A accredited slaughterhouse in Lipa City.

In his message, Sec. Dar announced that the Department of Agriculture (DA) continues to put in place projects to address the challenges posed by the African Swine Fever (ASF).

Magpapa-mass produce na po tayo ng RAPID test kit para maalagaan at maprotektahan ang ating hog industry,” he said.

The agri chief announced that DA is allotting P80 million for the development and mass production of test kits developed by the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in partnership with the DA’s Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) under a nationwide biosecurity and surveillance program.

According to the DA chief, a collective action plan must be pushed by the government and the private stakeholders together to level up biosecurity measures and address the growing concerns brought by ASF. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
