Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. personally inspected two of the three farm-to-market road (FMR) projects flagged by the agency’s Regional Field Office in Davao Region.
The FMR projects cost between P12 million and P15 million, with each road spanning at least one kilometer.
Under the current setup, the DA identifies the FMR projects, while the DPWH handles their implementation—from contractor selection to project completion and certification.
According to the DA, the country needs about 131,000 kilometers of FMRs to efficiently link agricultural production areas to markets. Around 70,000 kilometers have been completed so far, but at the current pace and budget levels, it may take decades to bridge the remaining gap. ### (Photos by DA- OSEC)
