Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the mass labeling of pesticide residue safe vegetables and fruits from various farmers cooperatives and associations (FCAs) at the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal (NVAT) on September 4, 2021.

He was joined by Undersecretary for Regulations Zamzamin Ampatuan, Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes, Regional Executive Director Narciso Edillo, and High-Value Crops Development Program Director U-Nichols Manalo.

Food safety labels and certificates were awarded to FCAs that completed training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and passed food safety requirements of the Department of Agriculture (DA) including the maximum residue level and safety from aflatoxin.

The vegetable and fruit trucks of food safety-compliant FCAs from the municipalities of Ambaguio, Bagaba, Dupax del Norte, Quezon, Kayapa, Santa Fe, Kasibu, Bambang, Solano, and Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya were dispatched mostly to areas in Metro Manila.

The DA Cagayan Valley Regional Field Office has been training FCAs on GAP and the use of rapid test kits (RTKs) for pesticide residue testing to control pesticide use in food production.

In addition, the vegetable grower FCAs were awarded with package of interventions including biological control agents, RTKs, planting materials, and crates. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
