The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM), through its National Soil Health program (NHSP), formally launched its Ani at Kita Customer Center, December 20, 2021.

The center serves as a platform for Filipino farmers, members of the academe, technical staff, and even the public and private sectors to access soil analyses conducted by the BSWM Laboratory Services Division (LSD).

The Ani at Kita Customer Center also conducts soil health monitoring, laboratory analyses, interpretation of laboratory results, technical assistance, consultations with soil experts, fertilizer recommendation, soil and water crop management, capacity building, and awareness of services offered by the LSD and DA Regional Field Offices. It also offers products such as soil test kits and compost fungus activators.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar, represented by Chief-of-Staff (COS) and Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian, expressed the relevance of the Ani at Kita Customer Center in the context of Philippine agriculture.

“The establishment of the Ani at Kita Customer Center is a commendable and necessary national program, and vital to our goals under the OneDA Reform Agenda — to address critical concerns such as diagnosis of soil health, sustainable land management, soil rejuvenation, and large-scale agricultural land use planning,” he said.

COS Sebastian also shared the DA’s challenge to both BSWM and NSHP — to use its expertise in solving key issues in Philippine agriculture, particularly the rising fertilizer prices.

“If only we can use our soil nutrient maps, we can actually save a lot of fertilizer and reduce the cost of our farmers in terms of buying fertilizers,” he added. (Photo by Krystelle Vergara and Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
