Meeting the Governors of Cebu and Negros Oriental

Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar met with Cebu and Negros Oriental governors Gwen Garcia and Roel Degamo, respectively, to discuss Cebu’s current measures against the African Swine Fever (ASF) on September 25, 2019.

On August 22, 2019, it was reported that Governor Garcia issued an Executive Order, imposing a total ban on hogs and all pork products coming from Luzon, as a way of protecting Cebu’s 10 billion-peso hog industry.

Dar reiterated the strict implementation of measures to effectively manage, control, and contain the threat of ASF, and that documents must be properly and strictly secured.

“We have shared goals and objectives to protect the hog industry,” Dar said.

Governor Garcia, in response, said, “We now understood the problem.”

Dar assured that the existing measures set by the DA against ASF – with proper vigilance in its implementation – target to protect the industry and the consumers alike. (Photos by Alan Jay Jacalan, AFID)
