Agriculture Secretary William Dar and Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Chairperson Sandra Sanchez-Montano met on August 11, 2021 and tackled collaborative projects that will create more opportunities for women, particularly those engaged in agriculture.

Secretary Dar said the Department of Agriculture (DA) is always ready to partner with the PCW and the private sector for new programs that will empower women. He said that DA will also continue to strengthen its existing gender-inclusive programs to improve women’s engagement in agriculture and agribusiness.

Some of the activities discussed include the establishment of women-led community gardens under the Urban Agriculture Program and skills development, product value-adding, and marketing under the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Program.

Undersecretary for High-Value Crops and Rural Credit and DA-Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System Chairperson Evelyn Laviña said that the DA’s Plant, Plant, Plant flagship program also offers opportunities for women in poultry, livestock, and fisheries.

The DA will also partner with the PCW, local government units, and the private sector for the launching of the Women in Agriculture (WIA) Program that will help registered women’s associations become certified agri-entrepreneurs.
