Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the establishment of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) National Soil and Water Resources Research and Development Center for Upland Pedo-Ecological Zone (NSWRRDC-UpPEZ) in Marilog District, Davao City.

On May 2, 2022, Secretary Dar approved the MOA signed by BSWM Director Pablo Montalla and Department of Agriculture (DA) Davao Regional Field Office Director Abel James Monteagudo for the use of a 50-hectare land for the research and techno-demo center.

The Center will benefit upland farmers, particularly the Nuvo-Manobo and Nuvo-Mtigsalog Tribes, by introducing soil and water conservation technologies and management practices appropriate in the area.

Moreover, the Center will also serve students, researchers, local government units, and people’s organizations, among other stakeholders who are interested to learn about the management of soil and water resources in upland areas. (Photos by: RAFIS – DA XI)
