Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar led the 982nd Regular Board Meeting of the Board of the Directors of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) on May 26, 2022.

“I have a good appreciation on the ongoing projects and programs of NIA,” Secretary Dar said as he welcomes his chairmanship of the board.

On April 25, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Executive Order No. 168, transferring the supervision and control of NIA from the Office of the President (OP) to the DA.

Dar stressed that while his chairmanship of the board will last for a month, NIA, as part of the OneDA family, must continue to work hard until the last hour of President Duterte’s term.

“As Secretary of Agriculture, that has been my orientation that the OneDA family will always do its best and serve our people – especially our farmers and fishers – to the best we can until the last hour of June 30,” Dar said.

He also stressed that irrigation and water are important for crop production, and the transfer of NIA is relevant.

“Agriculture without water is not sustainable, and NIA joining the force of DA is very critical. This will complete the whole components necessary to increase productivity not only with rice but with other commodities as well,” the agri chief said. ###
