Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the opening of the newly-renovated Office of the Secretary on March 3, 2022. The launching was also attended by DA officials.

“This is our old office. We restored it so that the historical account and big decisions made for the good of the farmers, fishers, and entrepreneurs will be in here,” Sec. Dar said.

According to the agri chief, it’s good to go back in the history, and see how far the agriculture sector has grown.

During the launch, he announced that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has approved the following measures to cushion the impact of the global economic challenges brought by Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine crisis on Philippine food security:

  • Additional budget to fund part two of the DA’s flagship “Plant, Plant, Plant” program;
  • Realignment of the 2022 DA budget;
  • Provision of concessional loans by the Land Bank of the Philippines and Development Bank of the Philippines to provincial local government units for palay procurement and rice buffer stocking; and
  • Transfer of oversight of the National Irrigation Administration back to the DA.

“I request all of you to elevate our game. Elevation meaning mas masigla pa at may passion. Hindi na lang sasabin na tapos na tayo, at apat na buwan na lang tayo. Until the last day, let’s give the kind of service to farmers and fishers,” Sec. Dar said. (Photo by Adones Buhayan, DA-AFID)
