Agriculture Secretary William Dar has named the province of Bohol as the second province to pilot the Province-Led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Services (PAFES).

The announcement was made after Governor Arthur Yap presented programs and initiatives for the development of the local agri-fishery sector in the island province on June 4, 2021.

The presentation is anchored on Dar’s “OneDA” approach strategies, which center on consolidation, modernization, industrialization, and professionalization.

With PAFES, the province will serve as an extension hub that will synchronize agricultural plans and programs as well as organize the activities of the various stakeholders.

In his message, Sec. Dar underscored the importance of the national and the local government collaborating and coming together to share responsibilities in attaining food security for the nation.

“The DA will steer, the local government units will row,” he said.

He further urged the Bohol provincial government to continue to elevate its game to realize the fruits of its efforts towards rural development.

“You have already set your priorities, you just have to synergize and turn these plans into actions to increase your current agriculture contribution of five percent,” he said. (Photo by Gian Carlo Luague, DA AFID)
