Agriculture Secretary William Dar kicked off the distribution of P5,000 subsidy to the 1,725 rice farmers of the province of Cavite under the Department of Agriculture (DA)’s Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) Program.

During the awarding ceremony of DA interventions on November 9, the DA chief announced that a total budget of P8.6 million has been allotted for the RFFA subsidy of Caviteño rice farmers.

As per its implementing rules and regulations, the RFFA grants cash subsidies to local small-scale rice farmers who are greatly affected by the drop-in prices of palay in the market. It also aims to provide them with access to funds for procuring farm inputs, as well as to enhance their opportunity to improve productivity and profitability.

Rice farmers who are registered with the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) and farms with two-hectare landholdings or less are eligible for the RFFA.

Secretary Dar vowed to continue assisting Filipino farmers, fishers, and agriculture service providers in need, especially during difficult times. Cavite, in particular, suffered from the consecutive threats of the Taal Volcano eruption, the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With all these challenges, with all the big natural calamities dapat handang-handa ang Filipino farmers at Filipino fisherfolk na magsipag, magsumikap, kasi gusto natin mas mayroon tayong sapat na pagkain para sa mamamayang Pilipino,” Sec. Dar said. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
