Seven years since the passage of the Sagip Saka Act, the Department of Agriculture (DA), together with the Office of Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Quezon City Government, and the World Food Programme (WFP), commemorated the first-ever “Sagip Saka Day” on May 9, 2026 at the Quezon City Meeting, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (M.I.C.E.) Center.
The one-day “Sagip Saka Day” celebration featured workshops, exhibits, and a marketplace showcasing fresh agricultural produce and locally made products from farmers and fisherfolk organizations.
The event also showcased success stories of farmers and fisherfolk who improved their livelihoods through negotiated contracts with government institutions. Panel discussions on farm-to-school feeding programs, free meal initiatives, private sector participation, agricultural financing, agribusiness and entrepreneurship, and government procurement reform were likewise conducted during the celebration. ### (Kristel Joyce Merle; photos by: Ian Roy P.
