Agriculture Secretary William Dar listened to young social entrepreneurs of Puerto Princesa who belong to the GoPalengke group that has partnered with the Department of Agriculture-MIMAROPA and the City Agriculture Office in ensuring that food supply remains accessible and stable in the province.

During his visit to Palawan on January 29, the agri chief made rounds at the Integrated Agribusiness Trading Center in Irawan, Puerto Princesa, which supports the Puerto Princesa Kadiwa Producers’ Market that has been a fundamental strategy of the local government in providing sustainable food items to its residents.

The producers’ market, which kicked-off to address the food challenges brought about by the ongoing pandemic, serves as an effective trading system for various agricultural food items. It follows an efficient flow of activity from product sourcing, consolidation and transportation, marketing, and support.

Highlighting Sec. Dar’s visit to the trading post was the demonstration of the GoPalengke electronic marketing platform which allows consumers to buy fresh agri produce by simply logging on the internet at the comforts of their homes.

In his message, Dar stressed that e-platforms have become a go-to application during the height of the pandemic, and will remain to be an important technology that will enable farm producers to be agripreneurs. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
