Beyond Buzzwords: Transforming Philippine Agriculture!

Agriculture Secretary William Dar visited the National Water Buffalo Gene Pool and the Livestock Innovations and Biotechnology Complex of the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) in Muñoz City, Nueva Ecija on July 28, 2021.

The agri chief was joined by PCC OIC-Director Ronnie Domingo, DA Central Luzon Regional Director Crispulo Bautista, and Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel Reyes.

During his visit, Secretary Dar instructed PCC to establish more breeding farms, innovate, and accelerate the level of production and breeding for higher milk production, to enable the sector to contribute to the country’s increasing food requirements. He added that carabaos are still important in agriculture even with mechanization.

Several PCC innovators also presented the agency’s diverse animal genetic resources cryobank and molecular diagnostics and screening technologies including the Quick Care pen-side screening test for caprine arthritis encephalitis. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA AFID)
