Sec. Dar’s Visit at BFAR Freshwater Technology Station (Sept. 24, 2021)

On September 24, 2021, Agriculture Secretary William Dar, Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes, and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Director Eduardo Gongona had a quick visit at the BFAR Freshwater Technology Station in Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

BFAR Mimaropa Regional Director Elizer Salilig showed them the Intensive Tilapia Hatchery that serves as the main supply of GET – Excel Tilapia fry and fingerlings for dispersal within the region and in other parts of the country.

The facility has an annual average production of 15 million fry/fingerlings and annual average dispersal of 10 million fry/fingerlings.

With different production and learning areas, the station also serves as a training ground for on-the-job students of fisheries courses. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
