Agriculture Secretary William Dar officially opened the tissue culture laboratory of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur on July 23, 2021.

The laboratory aims to increase the productivity and profitability of the agricultural sector in Sta. Maria and nearby municipalities to enable the northern Philippines to contribute to the national agenda towards food sufficiency and sustainability.

The laboratory, which houses various technologies focused on growing plants in any given season, will enable the production of various agri crops free from pests and diseases by providing advanced training to ISPSC students.

Funded by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) I, the construction of the laboratory started and finished during the term of the incumbent president Dr. Gilbert R. Arce. The inauguration was among the highlights of the President’s day celebration.

During the same event, Secretary Dar awarded and distributed farm machineries and other agricultural interventions to the farmers of Ilocos Sur, and broke ground for the future Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Food Hub. He also made rounds of the ongoing projects of DA inside the campus, particularly the Solar Powered Irrigation System installed last year. ### (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
