Agriculture Secretary William Dar and Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) President Ariel Buenaventura led the site inspection of cold storage facility in the Kadiwa Distribution Hubs of FTI in Taguig on March 19, 2021.

The operation of the Kadiwa Distribution Hub started in April 2020 following the call of Sec. Dar to help the Department of Agriculture (DA) in mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In September, DA and FTI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the improvement of cold storage facility of FTI and to serve as Distribution Hubs of Kadiwa Rolling Stores. DA downloaded P20 million (M) to FTI.

President Buenaventura presented the fruition of the partnership to Sec. Dar. These include the three refrigerated container vans amounting to P11.243 M. It uses star-wheel pipe technology from Taiwan that can maintain the freshness of goods up to 11 months and can save up to 70-75 percent electrical consumption which can eventually provide more income to farmers and fisherfolk.

During the visit, the Kadiwa Distribution Hub stored 5 metric tons (MT) of milkfish from Sual, Pangasinan, 1,694 kilos of tomatoes, 1,021 kilos of white onions and 1, 816 kilos of red onions that arrived on March 18 in the hub.

Currently, the hub has 14 refrigerated container vans (5 from Manila Economic and Cultural Office, 6 were purchased of FTI, and 3 from DA grant), Liquid Quenchant Fluidized Bed Technology (LQF) technology from Taiwan, and modified rack clad which can capacitate a total of 285,000 kilograms of agri produce.

Joining the inspections were Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes, National Food Authority Judy Dansal, Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Vice Chairman and Deputy Resident Representative Gilberto Lauengco Jr., Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) President Roberto Amores, and other FTI Board of Directors.
