In line with the efforts of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure sustainable productivity in food production areas nationwide, Agriculture Secretary William Dar turned over close to P90-million worth of agricultural projects and interventions to farmers’ cooperatives and associations all across the Zamboanga Peninsula on Feb. 26, 2021 at Zamboanga del Norte Convention and Sports Complex.

The interventions included support-fund to the local government units and people’s organizations for hauling trucks, breeder stocks, and planting materials under the Bayanihan II; additional layer stocks and transport vehicles to different organizations under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Project; credit assistance under the Agricultural Credit Policy Council; and fishery livelihood assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

The support forms part of the initiatives of the department under its “One DA” holistic approach. One DA, which rolls out 12 key strategies through a collaboration of different DA units and offices, aims to attain a growth target of 2.5 percent this year. (Photo by Gian Carlo Luague, DA-AFID)
