Agriculture Secretary William Dar, along with Undersecretary for Regulations Zamzamin Ampatuan, Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel Reyes, and High-Value Crops Development Program Director U-Nichols Manalo visited the Nueva Vizcaya Experiment Station (NVES) in Bagabag on September 4, 2021.

They checked the foundation tree of Siamese Abulug Pummelo and discussed the application of entomopathogenic fungi (ETF) to prevent or control rind borer and major insect pests.

In addition, Secretary Dar led the inauguration of the NVES laboratory for the white muscardine fungus biological control agent against rice black bug, grain bug, grasshopper, leafhopper, planthopper, fall armyworm, and beetles.

“We need to further enhance our biopesticide production, because it is more eco-friendly,” the agri chief said.

He also highlighted the importance of practicing judicious and balanced pesticide use from different sources. (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
