Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the celebration of the 2021 World Food Day starting with the opening of agri products and photo exhibit at the lobby of the Department of Agriculture and the program proper at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) Convention Hall on Oct. 15, 2021.

Joining Sec. Dar were key officials from DA, World Food Programme (WFP), and UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

Other highlights of the celebration included recognition of the 12 Regional Winners of the 2021 DA Search for Outstanding Rural Women, and presentation of the FAO Photo Contest winners. Capping the celebration is the lighting of candles and declaration of 2021 WFD pledge led by Sec. Dar and WFP Country Director Brenda Barton, and other DA Key officials.

World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on 16 October to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations FAO. This year’s theme – “Our Actions are our future. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and better life” – highlights the collective action to address hunger and the need to ensure healthy diets for all.
