President Rodrigo Roa Duterte recognized the “indispensable role of our farmers in ensuring that the Filipino people will have food on the table” during the inauguration of the Narvacan Farmers Market and Commercial Complex in Ilocos Sur on March 4, 2022.

The President added that their efforts remain an essential component in the country’s food security strategy, especially during times of great need.

The new farmers market, the largest public market in the province and features a world-class and sustainable design that integrates solar-power infrastructure, was implemented by the Narvacan local government unit (LGU) led by Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson and private sector partners.

“I believe that those who will use this establishment, especially our farmers will undoubtedly thrive abundantly and propel our recovery toward the new normal,” President Duterte said during the event.

He added that the facility will bring great opportunities for businesses and consumers not only for the municipality of Narvacan but also from the other neighboring areas.

“I am confident that we will revitalize our local economy by showcasing local products, providing more employment opportunities and attracting businesses in the region,” the Chief Executive said.

In addition, he assured that the administration continues to implement projects and programs that will uplift the lives of the people.

“As president, I will continue to fulfill my duties up to the last day of my term so that I can leave a timeless legacy of responsive and inclusive governance for our country’s next generation of leaders,” the President concluded.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar, who also attended the inauguration, commended the local government units’ (LGUs) leadership in transforming the local agriculture and fisheries sector and showing the way for other LGUs.

Secretary Dar enjoined the LGUs to serve as strong partners of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in its advocacy to make the agriculture sector resilient, modern, industrialized, and globally-competitive following the “OneDA” Reform Agenda. ### (Gumamela Celes Bejarin, DA-AFID)
