Chilean Ambassador to the Philippines José Miguel Capdevila Villarroel and Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol discuss the viability of exporting agricultural products from Chile to the Philippines and strengthen trade relations between the two countries.

In line with this, the Ambassador proposed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippines and Chile as well as a legal framework that will serve as a guide in conducting foreign trading activities.

“We are interested to occupy a space in the Philippine agriculture shelves” Ambassador Villarroel added.

Piñol assured the Ambassador that he will look closely into his proposal and ordered an inspection team composed of experts from DA to verify the safety and quality of the production areas in Chile that will export agri commodities in the Philippines.

The team is set to visit Chile in the first quarter of 2019. Similar inspections in nearby countries such as Uruguay and Paraguay is also being considered to maximize the efficiency of the said trip. ### (Carlos Cezar Baldosa, DA-AFID)
