National Sorghum Program launched

Author: DA-AFID | 12 November 2018

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol leads the ceremonial harvesting of sorghum planted on his farm in Kidapawan City on November 10, 2018. The activity highlighted the official launching of the National Sorghum Development Program, which aims to complement the government’s initiatives for sustainable corn production to support the growing poultry and livestock industry in the country. The activity was participated in by DA Regional Directors tasked to develop a pilot area to determine the suitability of sorghum in their regions. Leaders of the Indigenous People (IP) were also present during the event as IPs will be the first beneficiaries of the program because sorghum thrives mostly in tribal ancestral domains and rain-fed areas.
