Piñol eyes 4Ks on coffee project

Agriculture Secretary Manny F. Piñol welcomes Nestle Philippines Chairman and CEO Kais Marzouki and his other co-executives during a courtesy meeting on October 22, 2018 at the Department of Agriculture (DA) Office of the Secretary in Quezon City. Piñol expressed interest in another collaboration with Nestle on implementing the “Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4Ks)” that teaches indigenous groups good agricultural practices on coffee planting. Nestle, for their part, presented its future plan including strengthening its local production and consumption despite the challenges on imported coffee players. They also discussed the Special Safeguard (SSG) Duty, which aims to protect local farmers and ensure sustainability of local production and livelihood. Currently, Nestle is the biggest buyer of local robusta coffee having approximately 65% of total robusta were bought to farmers annually. ### (Photo by Alan Jay Jacalan, DA-AFID)
