The construction of over P200 million worth of farm-to-market (FMR) road in Kasibu Nueva Vizcaya, which is expected to boost the local agriculture products that includes citrus, has started, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar led the recent groundbreaking ceremony of the road project funded under the DA’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) — a six-year project created to establish platforms geared to develop modern and market-oriented crop and fishery sector.

“Farm-to-market road is underway for construction because the industry needs support by providing quality infrastructure support for the farmers. This will be a big boost because we will expand the HVCs industry, including citrus,” Dar said on March 20.

According to DA, the 12.07-kilometer (km) road will cover 1,850 hectares (ha) of agricultural lands that will provide convenient access to farm products within the area and reduce the travel time of farmers, especially during the wet season.

Meanwhile, Kasibu Mayor Romeo Tayaban lauds the agency for supporting farmers amid the pandemic and the stable prices of commodities.

“There will be more reasons that our farmers will further engage in citrus farming because of the infrastructure support that will bring positive impact in this highland town,” Tayaban said.
